Year 9 Robotics – Space Challenge
Learning Intentions
In this Module, you will work as scientists and engineers. You’ll immerse yourself in motivating STEM activities that prompt creative problem-solving, communication and teamwork. You’ll work on the Challenge Mat, an engaging and motivating platform where you’ll creatively apply your STEM knowledge and expand your problem-solving skills as you develop your Space Challenge solutions.

Get Ready to Go to Mars

Lesson 2
Activate Communications

Design build and program a robot that can navigate to the satellite dish and then push on it until it’s fully upright.
Lesson 3
Assemble Your Crew
45-90 min
Design, build and program a robot that can navigate to the lunar base, pick up the flight commander and set her down at the base area.
Lesson 4
Free the MSL Robot
45-90 min
Design build and program a robot that can navigate to the crater and free the MSL robot so that all six of its wheels are back on the Martian surface.
Lesson 5
Launch the Satellite
45-90 min
Design build and program a robot that can place the Satellite inside of the marked area on the Challenge Mat.
Lesson 6
Return the Rock Samples
45 – 90 min
Design, build and program a robot that can navigate to the Rock Samples, collect them and return them to the base area.
Lesson 7
Secure the Power Supply
45-90 min
Design build and program a robot that can navigate to the Solar Panel and rotate the handle to unfold it.
Lesson 8
Initiate Launch
45-90 min
Design, build and program a robot that can navigate to the launch site and press the launch button to launch the Rocket and activate the Mars Outpost.
